This scholarship is named in honour of Leslie Forkes, an active leader and passionate educator in the Kingston, Ontario area for over 32 years. He served on the Board of the RTOERO District 20 Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Executive for several years. He served as President from 2018 to 2021 with sincere attention to the well being of the senior population.
Students may apply for the scholarship in their final year of secondary school by completing the application form and submitting their acceptance to a post secondary academic/training programme. Candidates who show a high degree of interest in and interaction with the senior community are encouraged to apply for this substantial scholarship.
The criteria for the scholarship are intentionally broad in order to encourage the widest possible scope of interests including, but not restricted to, the fields of medicine, gerontology, technology, and sociology. Applications will be scored and selected by committee and the scholarships of one thousand dollars ($1000) will be presented at the student’s commencement or graduation ceremony. Up to two scholarships annually may be awarded within District 20’s area of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Counties in Ontario.
The scholarships will consist of a certificate and a cheque in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) to further the recipient’s or recipients’ studies in the realm of working with seniors. One or two scholarships may be presented in any one year.
